An inmate who escaped from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester on Thursday morning was apprehended in a motel room in Tulsa less than 12 hours afterward.
Kenneth M. Hammick II, 27, of Tahlequah was last seen at the prison at the 6:30 a.m. Thursday count and was discovered missing at the 8:30 a.m. count, said the prison’s security chief, Rick Caywood.
Hammick was apprehended by Department of Corrections personnel in Tulsa, Caywood said Friday.
“We believe he got a ride to Tulsa but have not been able to obtain exact information of who it was,” Caywood said. Hammick was tracked down and apprehended in an EconoLodge motel room in Tulsa at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Caywood said a woman was in the room with him.
Hammick was charged Thursday in Pittsburg County District Court with one felony count of escape. If convicted, he faces an additional two to seven years of incarceration.
