P.M. UPDATE: Murrell Home hosts Christmas open house Sunday

TAHLEQUAH — The halls will be decked in holiday finery of the 1800s, and live music will fill the air at the Murrell Home Christmas Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

This is the 12th year the historic Murrell Home has hosted the Christmas Open House. Visitors are invited to tour the 1845 mansion and learn more about Christmas customs from the mid-Victorian period. The Friends of the Murrell Home will be dressed in period clothing and host a reception with refreshments of the time.

“The Christmas Open House is probably the most beautiful time of the year to visit the home,” Amanda Pritchett, historical interpreter at the Murrell Home, said in a media release. “Guests can experience the atmosphere of elegant entertaining that the Park Hill community was known for during the Golden Age of The Cherokees.”

The Murrell Home Christmas Open House is free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated. The Murrell Home is three miles south of Tahlequah at 19479 E. Murrell Home Rd. in Park Hill. The 1845 plantation home was the residence of George and Minerva (Ross) Murrell, and is a National Historic Landmark.
