Sliding-scale health clinic opens

A new community health center seeks to offer a variety of medical services to patients in need.

NeoHealth, a health care system based in Hulbert, opened a Muskogee clinic in October. It is located on the southeast end of the Yorkshire Shopping Center at the corner of York Street and Hancock Streets.

The center will have a grand opening reception and ribbon-cutting at 2 p.m. today.

“We’re a federally-qualified health care center for uninsured or under-insured patients,” said Angel Westbrook, CEO of NeoHealth. “We’ll see everyone, regardless.”

Westbrook said NeoHealth Muskogee will offer services in pain management, family practice and addiction treatment.

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but doctors see patients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Walk-in patients are welcome.

Doctors serving the center are Dr. Laurie McLemore, M.D., and Dr. Kenneth Gibson, D.O., who specializes in family medicine, addiction treatment and pain management. Gibson also serves the system’s Hulbert Health Center. McLemore serves the system’s Westville Family Medical Center.

Receptionist Cindy O’Keefe said the NeoHealth Muskogee sees about 20 patients each Wednesday when Gibson is at the clinic.

“On Mondays and Fridays, it varies from two to four patients,” O’Keefe said.

Westbrook said the system opened the clinic because “Muskogee seems to have a great number of uninsured and under-insured patients.”

Uninsured patients pay cash at the clinic, Westbrook said.

“We have a sliding scale. Some people can see us for as little as $30,” she said.

The system has prescription drug contract with its pharmacy in Hulbert as well as Walgreen drug stores in Muskogee.

The Muskogee clinic also will have a licensed practical nurse and a medical aide.

NeoHealth also operates a health center and an OB/GYN office in Tahlequah.
