A man found dead early Sunday had left a nearby residence before police arrived there on a domestic violence call, police said Monday.
David Russell Walters, 37, son of Tullahassee Mayor Emma Mae Walters, had left the Muskogee home at 4:35 a.m. and was found dead four blocks away at 6:19 a.m., said Lt. Bobby Lee.
Police are investigating whether Walters jumped on the side of a vehicle as a woman left the home, said Police Capt. Scott Shields.
“There were several people who had contact with him prior to him leaving the house,” Lee said.
Four vehicles belonging to individuals at the home were processed by police Monday, Lee said. Potential evidence from at least one vehicle was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Shields said.
Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore said he expects to receive a medical examiner’s report and the police investigation report this morning.
Walters had been charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse assault and battery in Muskogee County on June 29, according to Muskogee County District Court records. An arrest warrant was issued on June 26.
Walters also was charged in July with first-degree burglary, domestic abuse assault and battery, and threatening to perform an act of violence.
