Teen charged in rape of minor

A Muskogee teenager has been charged as a youthful offender with first-degree rape, by force or fear, in Muskogee County District Court.

Jeramiah Brooks Phillips, 17, is accused of forcibly having intercourse with a minor on Sunday.

Phillips is held in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on $100,000 bond. He returns to court for a sounding docket at 9 a.m. Dec. 19. At that time, a date will be set for a preliminary hearing where testimony will be given.

The Muskogee County District Attorney could choose to seek an adult sentence or a lesser juvenile sentence if Phillips is convicted as a youthful offender, according to Oklahoma law.
