Man hurt in crash in serious condition

A man admitted to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition after a crash west of Coweta has been upgraded on Monday to serious condition.

Mitchell Shamas, 33, of Coweta was westbound on a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle on 121st Street South on Saturday when he struck a 1985 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jamie Kelly, 32, of Coweta.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report states Kelly failed to yield from a private drive and turned eastbound into Shamas’ motorcycle.

Kelly and her passenger, 50-year-old Colleen Kelly of Broken Arrow, were not injured. Shamas was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.

The OHP report lists the condition of Jamie Kelly as drinking – ability impaired. Seat belts were in use in the pickup. The report states Shamas was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
