Two men arrested in beating

Police are attempting to ID a third person in home invasion

— Two people have been arrested and police are attempting to identify a third person after a home-invasion style beating early Thursday morning.

John Steele Jr., 18, and John Steele Sr., 44, were arrested on complaints of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary, according to a police report.

About 1:20 a.m., police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Jefferson St. on a burglary complaint.

When they arrived, a man and woman told police they had been beaten by three men, said Lt. Bobby Lee.

The man advised police he woke up and saw three people standing in his bedroom doorway.

The suspects allegedly held the man down and beat him with a “club-like” object, Lee said.

The man was treated by Muskogee County Emergency Services at the scene and released.

The woman told police she woke up to find her boyfriend being held down and beaten.

“She advised our officers that when she tried to help her boyfriend, her hair was grabbed and she was punched in the face repeatedly,” Lee said.

The woman was taken to Muskogee Regional Medical Center, but her condition later Thursday was unknown, Lee said.

The couple told police they recognized one of the suspects.

The beaten man said he was involved in a fight with the suspect the day before.

Police located two suspects in the 800 block of Osage Street. The two men were taken back to the house where the beating occurred, identified by witnesses, then arrested, Lee said.
