Trivia challenge to raise funds for Education Foundation

— Watch out when asking Anita Weibel a trivia question.

That’s when her competitive spirit comes out. Weibel and seven friends won the Battle of the Brains 2012 Trivia Challenge last year.

Bring on the questions, Weibel says. They’re ready to answer more trivia questions this year.

This year’s Battle of the Brains, Trivia Challenge 2013 will be 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Muskogee Civic Center. Proceeds benefit the Education Foundation of Muskogee.

The challenge sets tables — eight people each — against each other for the coveted plastic trophy. Only advance ticket sales are allowed. Admission is $35 per person or $280 per table. The foundation and Yaffe Iron and Metal Inc. are presenting the Trivia Challenge.

People may make reservations via email at trivianight2013@yahoo.com. Deadline for registration is Friday.

“The whole purpose of this fundraiser is to help grow our endowment,” said Education Foundation president Randa Johnson. “Every year we give away 4 percent of our endowment in grants to schools. The more money we can raise in the endowment, the more we can give to teachers.”

Although the Trivia Challenge involves teams, individuals are welcome to come, Johnson said.

“A lot of individual tickets are available,” she said, adding that people with the foundation will seat individuals at a table with others.

Foundation grant committee chairwoman Glenda Broome said the eight-person teams must correctly answer a series of questions in various categories. Mulligans, or bonus questions, are offered during the competition.

“Some people are really serious about competing, and some just get together to help a worthy cause,” Broome said.

“It’s fun,” Weibel said. “I like being challenged and being able to help the schools. It’s nice to be known for what you know.”

The Trivia Challenge also features a dinner catered by Mahylon’s and a cash bar. There also will be a silent dessert auction and a live auction during intermission.
