Girls Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma will celebrate the 98th birthday of the Scouts on Saturday at Three Rivers Museum, 220 Elgin Ave. The celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Girl Scout Day will honor local Girl Scouts over 90 years of age who were among the first members in the area. They will also commemorate the fact that the very first Girl Scout cookie sale in the world took place in Muskogee 93 years ago. Three Rivers Museum displays a statue of a Girl Scout with boxes of cookies beside her in a permanent exhibit outside the historic Midland Valley Railroad Depot where the museum is located.
Three Rivers Museum is sponsoring Girl Scout Day and offering the Scouts an opportunity to earn patches for participating in the day’s events. There will be a special flag raising ceremony conducted by the Girl Scouts Cadet Corps and birthday cake for visitors. The flag raising ceremony takes place at 11 a.m.
Girl Scout cookies also will be available for purchase at the event. All current and former Girl Scouts are invited to attend.
