Cherokee Elder Care gets new bus

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee Elder Care is the recipient of a new 14-passenger bus complete with an automatic wheelchair lift, allowing for easier transport for the elderly and disabled. The purchase of the bus was a partnership effort between the center and the State of Oklahoma, and will be used by the center and by other community groups needing transportation service of the elderly.

“We really needed this bus, and we are glad we had the opportunity to partner with the state to acquire it,” said Ben Stevens, director for Cherokee Elder Care. “It will be put to good use not only by our center, but by other groups in the community as well.”

The purchase was made through a special program offered through the Aging Services Division of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

The bus will be made available to outside groups needing those services when the center is not using it for their own program purposes.
