Five employees of Grace Living Center Muskogee have completed a rigorous program to become peer mentors and train new nursing assistants entering the profession of skilled nursing care.
Graduating from the National Association of Health Care Assistants’ certified preceptor course are certified nurse aides Cynthia Robinson, Melissa Tolliver, Rachel Soap, Benecia Fuller and certified medication aide Roberta Swearengin.
“This nationally-recognized program aligns nicely with our other workforce education efforts. It provides graduates with the knowledge and tools needed to help successfully orient and train new nursing assistants” Todd Hightower, administrator of Grace Living Center Muskogee said in a media release. “Mentors become a lot like friends on the job for new nursing assistants, giving them someone to turn to when they have questions or concerns.”
Hightower said peer mentoring also reduces employee turnover, strengthens leadership skills and enhances teamwork. All of these are important components of quality care.
Grace Living Center Muskogee is located at 4717 W. Okmulgee.
