WARNER — An Arkansas couple on a motorcycle was killed Tuesday after the motorcycle was hit from behind.
The crash happened around 12:05 p.m. two miles north of Warner in Muskogee County.
Charles Taylor, 44, and Monette Taylor, 43, both of Boles, Ark., were pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report said.
A gold 2003 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by Glenna Lewis, 45, of Warner, was driving south on U.S. 64, when she hit the 2001 Honda Rebel motorcycle driven by Charles Taylor. Taylor was ejected into the northbound lanes and was struck by a red 2000 Ford driven by Linda Coleman, 57, of Muskogee. Coleman was not injured, the OHP report states.
The Taylors were not wearing helmets. Lewis and Coleman were wearing seat belts, and their vehicle airbags did not deploy.
Lewis was taken by Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service to Muskogee Regional Medical Center where she was treated for stress-related symptoms and released.
Two other people who were not involved in the crash but who became ill at the scene also were taken to MRMC with non-life-threatening injuries, said Rebecca Smith, EMS spokeswoman.
Emergency personnel from Warner, Keefeton and Muskogee blocked U.S. 64 for several hours while the wreck was investigated.
Warner Fire Department personnel handed out water and other cold drinks to emergency workers during the heat of the afternoon.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated the scene, taking photographs and measurements, but the report released Tuesday evening said the investigation had not concluded.
