Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office investigators said a Boynton man arrested in connection with a shooting has been released from jail.
Sheriff’s investigator Bert Poole said Stephen Holmes, arrested Monday on complaints of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, was freed Wednesday.
Poole said the Muskogee County District Attorney’s Office wanted to hear from T.J. Wilson, who was shot, before deciding whether to charge Holmes.
Wilson is recovering in a Tulsa hospital.
“I spoke with Wilson in person, with his wife there with him at the hospital,” Poole said. “He could barely whisper, but he basically said he didn’t want to talk about what happened and said he didn’t think (Holmes) meant to do it.”
Authorities said Monday that Holmes and Wilson had been in an argument before the shooting happened. Wilson was shot three times at 125 N. Eighth St. in Boynton just before midnight Sunday.
Poole said Wilson, 37, said he didn’t want charges pressed against Holmes, who is Wilson’s nephew.
Poole said he would wait a week before speaking with Wilson to see if he felt the same way.
“Right now he’s doing better, but he’s still got a lot of healing to do,” Poole said. “So, in a week, I plan on going back and talking to him once he’s feeling better and we’ll go from there.”
Poole said Tuesday the evidence “appeared to be self-defense.”
