A Muskogee County jury deliberated less than two hours Monday before returning a guilty verdict against Clinton Riley Potts, 34, in the Dec. 7, 2004, slaying of Gregory Leroy Clark.
The jury recommended life without parole.
Clark was found face down in his front yard about five miles south of Boynton. He had been shot twice in the arms but was beaten to death, according to an autopsy report.
After he was dead, someone cut his face and slit his throat, officials said earlier.
The prosecution claimed Potts threatened to kill Clark after a November 2004 incident in which Potts’ live-in girlfriend stayed with Clark for less than one day.
