P.M. UPDATE: Celebrate holiday season tonight at The Ol' Time Downtown Christmas

— Muskogee’s historic downtown will host The Ol’ Time Downtown Christmas from 5 to 8 tonight. A majority of the businesses along West Broadway and South Main will be open and receiving guests and shoppers.

The Ol’ Time Christmas will be a night of music, food, open houses, special sales, door prize giveaways and Christmas window displays. Musical groups from Muskogee Public Schools will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. at the B.E.S.T Center, 202 W. Broadway. The Muskogee High School Band Boosters will sell hot chocolate and other refreshments in front of Square Deal Music on Broadway. They are raising funds for the band’s spring performance tour.

Dolce Salon and Holly’s Day Spa in the Severs Block at Second and Broadway will offer refreshments, special vendors and music by the Swon Brothers. The Manhattan Apartments will have an open house, offering tours of apartments available in the renovated building.

Shops in the Antiques District along South Main will offer refreshments and door prizes. 

Then on Saturday, the Downtown Muskogee Christmas Parade kicks off at 2 p.m. Rumor has it that Father Christmas will make an appearance. The theme of the parade is “Christmas Past: Celebrating 140 Years in Muskogee.”

The parade begins at the Muskogee Civic Center and runs along Okmulgee Avenue and Broadway between Second and Fifth streets. Henry Peak, a longtime resident and former county commissioner, will be the grand marshal of the parade.

In a first for the Christmas Parade, Muskogee Public Schools students will cover it in a a live broadcast. The program will be shown on cable Channel 15, the education station, during the parade and at various times next week.
