Fort Gibson officials confirmed a student was arrested at the high school today after a loaded gun was found in a truck.
The truck and gun belonged to the student’s father, and there was no intent on the student’s part to use the gun, said Police Chief Clint Vernon.
“We had to arrest the student because there’s just no gray area there. It’s just too sensitive an issue,” Vernon said.
The school had the company it contracts with out with dogs Thursday, Vernon said. Fort Gibson officers at the school became involved when a dog alerted on the student’s truck for a weapon.
Superintendent Derald Glover said he can’t comment on a specific student’s situation, but he’s certain “no kids were in danger whatsoever.”
