TAHLEQUAH —
TAHLEQUAH — Materials for the ice rink for Norris Park were originally set for arrival sometime around Tuesday, but Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director David Moore said a delay means construction of the ice rink will be spread out from today until Monday, with an extra day added for any inclement weather that could hamper set-up.
“Right now, it looks like the 23rd will be the first day we can hold a session,” said Moore.
All schedules for skating are weather-permitting, and all sessions are 90 minutes, with the rink set to close for one hour after each session for maintenance. The last scheduled day for ice skating is set for Sunday, Jan. 1.
General admission to Snowflake’s ice rink is $10 per person, for all ages, for a 90-minute session, with the price including tax and skate rental. The rink size is set to be 50-by-70 feet.
Organizers said the number of people who can skate during one session will vary based on the skill level and age.
If temperatures rise to about 70 degrees on any day, all sessions will have to be canceled, Moore said. Rain will also put a stop to the event. If temperatures are between 60-70 degrees, evening sessions may be the only available options.
Moore said private sessions can be booked by calling the Chamber and asking for information. For groups of certain a certain size, including schools, ticket prices may be lower.
Norris Park will also feature winter-wonderland decorations, a concession, and other activities.
Local merchants were able to provide their holiday store hours with notes about sales and other news, and that information will be on hand at the ice rink for visitors interested in shopping.
The inaugural Snowflake Winter Festival is a combined effort of the Chamber, Tahlequah Main Street Association, the City of Tahlequah, and local business and volunteers who are donating their time and resources.
