Early voting ongoing today

In-person absentee voting began Friday at county election boards across the state for party primary contests at the county, state and federal levels.

In Muskogee County, 401 votes were received by the Muskogee County Election Board on Friday.

The outcome of three contests will be decided Tuesday in the Democratic primaries — treasurer, county clerk and court clerk. Other county races will be decided during the Aug. 28 runoff or the general election Nov. 6.

One statewide race — the Oklahoma Corporation Commission contest featuring incumbent Bob Anthony and challenger Brooks Mitchell — will be decided by Republicans. Other contests on the ballot include legislative and congressional posts.

Under Oklahoma’s election laws, primary elections are closed: Registered voters may cast ballots only in contests featuring candidates of the same political persuasion.

Early voting will continue from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Precinct polling will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters must present valid forms of identification.
