WARNER — Third-grader Ryan Eddy said he knew he was going to see his mom when a Veterans Day video showed greetings from soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

“But I didn’t know she was going to be the last one,” Ryan said. “They saved the best one for last.”

The video, shown at Warner’s Public School’s Veterans Day program, featured members of a National Guard unit sending greetings to people in Warner. The last greeting came from Staff Sgt. T’Lisa Eddy, serving in Afghanistan’s Kandahar area.

Ryan beamed when the video showed his mother, dressed in her sand-gray fatigues, greeting her family and promising to come home soon. His brother, 5-year-old Nathan Eddy, and their father, Warner High School English teacher Jon Eddy joined in his happiness.

“I was pretty surprised to see her,” Jon Eddy said. “When I started seeing other people in her unit — some of them, I knew —in the video, I started wondering. I was just excited to see her.”

Eddy said his wife was deployed to Afghanistan in August. It’s her first deployment. He said they’ve kept up with each other through  Facebook.

Warner School curriculum coordinator Charla Jackson said she also was able to connect with T’Lisa Eddy through Facebook. Jackson said she arranged with Eddy to make the video greeting for Eddy’s husband and two sons.

The school prepared a video featuring Warner students and various school groups, including FFA, FCCLA and athletic teams.

“It was kind of sticky for a while,” Jackson said, recalling that, at times, she wasn’t sure how the video would make it to the school.

“The video was made last week,” she said. “I was positive we’d get it. If I could fly over there and get it, I would have.”

Jackson said she managed to get the video through Google Data. The video was so recent, it showed some veterans mentioning the Warner Eagles football success and wishing the team luck in playoffs.

The Warner Eagles have had an undefeated season and are in the second round of the Class A playoffs this week.

Jon Eddy said his wife is excited about the football teams. He said his wife is due to return from Afghanistan this spring.

“In April,” Ryan said.

Eddy gave his son an affectionate squeeze, saying, “they’re kind of vague on that: April or May.”

The Warner program also featured a veterans’ breakfast sponsored by Warner FCCLA. Veterans attending the ceremony were given gift bags prepared by the Warner after-school program.
