Two former McIntosh County lawmen pleaded not guilty to embezzlement and conspiracy charges Wednesday.
Former McIntosh County Undersheriff Mykol Brookshire and former Sheriff Terry Jones are charged with embezzlement by an officer and conspiracy against the state. They will be scheduled to appear in court during a February 2010 jury docket, said McIntosh County Assistant District Attorney Greg Stidham.
Brookshire, 38, faces a felony charge in Cherokee County for allegedly portraying himself as a deputy sheriff nearly a month after he resigned.
Stidham said he did not request revocation of Brookshire’s bond in McIntosh County because the federal court took action on the Cherokee County charge.
Brookshire was wearing a federal monitoring bracelet on his ankle when he appeared in court. He is confined to his home but can leave because of a medical need upon approval of his U.S. Probation officer.
