The Housing Authority of the City of Muskogee has awarded its first Rubye Carter Scholarship to Blaine Burge, a senior at Muskogee High School.
The $1,000 scholarship was presented to Burge during a ceremony attended by members of the Board of Commissioners, the Housing Authority's executive director and Burge's family. Burge is a member of the National and Oklahoma Honor Societies and currently plans to major in education at Northeastern State University.
The scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a deserving high school senior to assist with higher education expenses, is named in honor of Rubye Carter, a longtime resident of Muskogee and a career educator in the Muskogee school system. Carter also was an active member of the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority for more than 10 years.
