Fort Gibson Historic Site will present "The Fourth at the Fort" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
This living history event will show visitors how Independence Day was observed at an 1840s army post.
Members of the Sixth Infantry Living History Association will do infantry drill, including firing demonstrations. There will also be military music of the pre-Civil War era. At 1 p.m. there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a cannon salute. A reception for visitors will follow. There will also be some games and pastimes of the period in which visitors will be welcome to participate.
Living history activities will take place in the log fort area of the site from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the site closes.
Admission is $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors (65 and over), and $1 for students (ages 6-18) Children 5 and under are admitted free.
