I belong to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 524.
I recently attended the memorial service for Donald Wann and was very proud to be part of the different veterans groups and motorcycle chapters that were also in attendance.
After the church service, as we drove to the Fort Gibson cemetery. I was amazed to see so many cars stopped beside the roads and people lining the streets. So many people stopped to show their respect for this family who was finally reunited with the loved one who went off to serve his country and had been gone for so long.
People waved flags; others just stood in reverence. I have to say that I have never been so proud to be a Veteran and an American.
It is very special for a community to come together as it did for this occasion.
I have only lived in Muskogee for three years, but I can now say how very proud I am to be an Okie from Muskogee.
