THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Owner of dumped dog doesn’t deserve pet

It’s hard to believe how people treat animals in this town. So you can’t keep them? Put an ad in the paper or post it on your Facebook or Craig’s List, or even have it put to sleep, but don’t dump it. Anything is better than starving them to skin and bones and hairless and sores all over, then dumping them.

We got a call on a dog sitting on side of road on Cherokee Drive that had been dumped. Two nice police officers stopped to see if everything was OK and they assisted my employee and got the pit in a crate and loaded in her car. We want to thank very much these two nice and caring officers for their help.

She was taken to Animal Medical Center, we heartworm checked her because she was so weak and skinny. Thank goodness that was negative, but she is loaded with all kinds of worms, including tapeworms. She has bedsore-type places on her hips because of having to be on very hard surfaces and flea dermatitis, we did skin scraping since she had hair loss.

She is so skinny and malnourished we have to feed her small amounts several times a day. Dogs that are starved like this can’t digest protein fast or their body shuts down, so they have to be built up slowly. “Promise” got her shots and is on oral medication and meds for her skin.

You know who you are that dumped her; you should be put in jail, shame on you, you will pay one day for what you did, it always comes back around.

We named her “Promise” because she needed a good promise, a promise of love and not hate, a promise of care and not neglect. It’s a shame people get these pits and treat them so bad. But the good news is “Promise” is moving to Missouri we got her a good forever-home. I hope the person that dumped “Promise” never even thinks about getting another dog, you don’t deserve one.
