It shouldn’t be incumbent on people who live outside Oklahoma — even Oklahoma natives such as I — to hold Oklahoma’s congressmen accountable.
Sen. Tom Coburn is often given a forum on these pages to promote his agenda, but he is rarely held accountable on the issues. He’d prefer not to explain.
Coburn has placed a hold on the Veterans’ Caregiver and Omnibus Health Benefits Act, a bill that would benefit all veterans. Coburn’s hold is strange considering Republicans portray themselves as the party that most supports veterans.
Still, Coburn has offered no legitimate reason for placing a hold on this bill, and this newspaper has not forced him to explain his opposition to a bill that enjoys broad bipartisan support.
At the very least, his hometown newspaper should print this letter demanding an unequivocal explanation from the senator.
Or maybe he’s still too distracted with the adulterous affairs of his colleague from Nevada to attend to urgent affairs that would benefit veterans.
