It is time to sunset the Indian nations’ discounted vehicle taxes and fees for use of the roads. There is no logical reason they should be allowed a huge discount to buy and operate their vehicles on the public roads and pay only about half of what everyone else does.
The Indian-owned SUV does the same amount of road wear and tear as everybody else's.
It is about time to bring back the diesel fuel stamps for the cross country trucks traveling through the state. In the old days, all cross country commercial trucks were required to purchase a minimum of 100 gallons of diesel fuel per trip in the state and display the cab decal that proves they did it.
Most cross country trucks can travel all the way through now and not need to buy fuel so they can buy it in a cheaper state.
It’s also about time to license all the boat and utility trailers.
And the goofiest one of all? We need to quit putting the motor-vehicle fees and taxes in the state general fund.
And why do we divert vehicle taxes to schools?
They have their own assigned budgets. If they’re short of funds, park some buses and anybody a mile from school can walk or bike. Get some chubby moms to escort the kids back and forth to school.
