THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Write Boren about health care vote

I recently wrote Congressman Dan Boren asking him to begin health care reform from scratch, as proposed by the Republicans in Congress.  He wrote back saying he had voted “no” on the public option for government-run insurance, as he promised at the town hall meetings.

I attended the Pryor, OK meeting last year and every one of the dozen times that concerned citizens asked or told him, “Do you promise to vote ‘no’ on the massive health care bill?” “I want to hear you say you will vote ‘no’ on Obamacare,” his response was, “I promise not to support a bill that has a public option.” Period. He clearly omitted (each time he responded) all reference to the remainder of the bill.

Did Congressman Boren actually think that hundreds of us assembled in Pryor (and in each of the other cities) were only concerned with keeping out the public option from healthcare? Has he forgotten how angry the citizens were about the stimulus funding and the unchecked federal spending?

I encourage each of you to write or call Congressman Boren and explain that you were not merely in attendance at a town hall meeting because you only desired to kill the public insurance option.

Remind him again of the multiple reasons why you attended. Based on his e-mail response to me last week, he is clearly planning to vote “yes” on March 18 during the underhanded “reconciliation” process.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is completely out of touch with Oklahomans’ reality, is pushing hard for Boren to vote in favor of this fiasco.

As an aside, here's another bothersome point: When Congressman Boren was asked why he voted for Pelosi as Speaker of the House, he responded that he did so because Pelosi represented his party.

Does Nancy Pelosi represent Oklahomans' values and beliefs?
