Recently, I was watching the 5:30 p.m. national news. There was talk about who is ahead in the presidential race, something about flooding in parts of the country but mostly about the wretched state of the economy, people worried about their retirement funds shrinking or their out-of-control debts or losing their home, etc.
It all brought to mind a story I heard.
It seems a small girl was traveling by air, what looked like unaccompanied. The flight encountered some very dangerous conditions. The warning lights came on and everyone was told to return to their seats, put on seat belts and prepare for an emergency. The little girl had been reading, but she did everything she was told to do. The flight seemed to get worse and worse, but the little girl was very calm and continued to read as everyone around her was obviously panicked.
Someone asked her how she could be so calm in such circumstances. Whereupon, she replied, “Oh, I’m not worried. My daddy is driving this plane, and he’s got to get me home.”
Point taken. God is in control and he has promised to get us home.
