For the first time, four years ago at the opening of the Congress, the U.S. Constitution was read aloud to a group of 137 legislators out of 435 congress members. For the second time, the U.S. Constitution was read aloud January 3, 2013, at the opening of Congress. Seventy-four legislators participated.
This was supposed to be a symbolic gesture of the enduring greatness of our Founding Document, which outlines the rights for all Americans. I felt broken heartedness at what reflects a disinterest in this “Law of the Land,” which today is viewed as obsolete, irrelevant and worthy to be discarded. I discovered that there were difficulties in getting this event publicized to allow more legislators to attend and read aloud an assigned portion.
Due to insufficient notification, according to Congressman Mullin, others had schedules in place for two weeks prior and the e-mail notice of the event came in less than 24 hours of the event so the time conflicts were many. Even though this is an understandable explanation of the low attendance, the news media has reported and shown some of our lawmakers actually agree that the document is irrelevant; some show actual disdain.
Many of our elected officials as well as “We, The People” do not reverence this document and those who have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution are doing an incompetent job. Witness the present attacks on the First and Second Amendments — freedom of speech, of religion, of gun ownership.
Our school children do not know the document’s significance and the sacrifice it took to get this document ratified in 1787. Over the years, less effort has been shown to protect this document; according to Walid Shoebat, a former Muslim now Christian, “America has been infiltrated with Muslims and our president is a Muslim who supports the Muslim Brotherhood in its intention to destroy this nation from within and destroy Israel as well.” See Walid’s full message at http://therightscoop.com/walid-shoebat-to-america-you.
America is worth fighting for and reclaiming for God’s purposes. Wake up America!
