THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Nation’s struggle with racism continues

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, national syndicated radio host, used the “N” word 11 times in one of her recent broadcasts, and when she received negative comments about this situation, her reply was that she was not going to renew her contract at the end of the year and basically had no remorse. Sarah Palin sent her a message on Twitter expressing that she should not quit but reload and continue instead. Who is Sarah Palin to tell anyone not to quit when she stepped down as the governor of Alaska? However, she had method to her madness to become vice president of the United States, but she lost that bid to President Barrack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

Dr. Laura felt justified in her use of the “N” word because not being able to do so was a direct violation of her First Amendment rights. I feel that as intelligent as Dr. Laura is supposed to be, she immediately wrecked her career as radio host and certainly she is lacking in character and in using sound judgment.

This nation has been struggling with racism for more years than most of us would care to remember, however, it is still quite prevalent today with the only difference is that our adversary no longer wear hooded uniforms, but rather business suits.

I would also like to add that two recent polls stated that since our president was a person of color he must be Muslim, and in that he stated that Muslims have the right to erect a mosque in close proximity to Ground Zero, but he did not state that it should be done.

I personally don’t see the problem. We do live in America where we have certain constitutional rights and freedoms, but using racial slurs does not fall in that category.

Wake up! President Obama inherited the problems that we are now experiencing with the economy from the past administration and, if given the opportunity, I feel he will make the necessary corrections and once again balance our budget like we knew in President Bill Clinton’s administration.
