I am very proud to write this letter on behalf of my family regarding our father, Dr. J.A. Reed Sr.
He came to Muskogee in 1964 when he was called to the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Dad made it a point to not only help the people within his Church, but he made it a point to make his presence known all over Muskogee. He believed if someone needed his help, God was going to give his the strength and know how to help them. He went into court with people, he visited and prayed for people in the hospitals, he went into the jail and helped people, he made frequent visits to the school system, helped out at Green Country, tried to bring unity to Muskogee and among the preachers, and the list goes on and on.
He left a great legacy not only in Muskogee, but all across the United States. He is still known for the great man who gave his life for people and for doing the work of the Lord.
His motto was “if I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.” Dr. J.A. Reed Sr.’s life was not in vain.
Thank you so much for naming Sixth Street in his honor. He served at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for 42 years. He loved that church and the congregation, and he would be so honored if he knew that this was being done. Our family is honored and grateful.
Dr. J.A. Reed Jr.
