THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Ring the Bell for Salvation Army

Desire to have a warm and fuzzy feeling this holiday season? Let me suggest volunteering to ring the bell for The Salvation Army.

Last year, over 1,500 children in Muskogee County had Christmas thanks to this wonderful organization’s Angel Tree program. The Salvation Army also distributed over 600 large food boxes to needy families (all generously donated and packed by the Veterans Administration Regional Office).

The Advisory Board is actively pursuing volunteers to right the bells this year. By doing so, it allows all proceeds to provide for those in need in our community.

Having volunteered for several two-hour periods, it seems the most successful sessions were spent ringing the bell with my nine-year-old grandson. Grandparents and parents can help the children understand the importance of giving back to the community.

How about a challenge: OU vs. OSU, liberal vs. conservative, First Assembly vs. First Baptist vs. First Methodist vs. etc. When you call to volunteer, claim your affiliation. For example, OSU, liberal, First Baptist. At the end of the bell ringing, we’ll reveal the final tally.

Join with a friend and volunteer for a two-hour shift, contact Capt. Rhonda at (918) 310-6364. There are 14 business locations from which to choose.

STEPHEN

SMALLEY,

Chairman

Salvation Army

Advisory Board
