THE PEOPLE SPEAK: New senator shows chauvinistic views

The most famous Alabama governor, the late George Wallace, wrote the book on politics with one simple rule: Send them a message.

What message did the Republican rube Scott Brown send in order to win Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat and upset Democrat Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley?

He drove a pickup truck.

His truck was strong evidence that Brown is a redneck.

A redneck is someone who advocates provincial, conservative and often bigoted attitudes. And a redneck is a guy who wants us girls to stay in the pickup when politics is discussed.

Down here on the “Redneck Riveria,” most folks have been raised to believe men are the generals and women the privates, like in our Catholic and Southern Baptist churches, which won’t let women preach.

That same message is A-OK with Massachusetts voters who have never cottoned to women calling the shots. On election night, “General” Brown cemented his redneck credentials by announcing his “privates,” his daughters, were available to be hocked to the highest bidder.

The only way to deal with male chauvinist pigs like Brown is to pass a constitutional amendment requiring each state to elect one man and one woman to the U.S. Senate. We girls are 51 percent of the population and deserve half of the Senate seats. Today there are only 16 women and 84 men in the Senate.
