THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Animal advocates find lost cat; get thanks

Too often people who deserve recognition for their efforts are never acknowledged. I want to make you aware of some people in your hometown who should be recognized for their good deeds. They came through in a time of need for total strangers without hesitation and no questions asked.

In October my niece Misty Lindsay and her three children decided to make a fresh start in Muskogee. Unfortunately, things unraveled within days of arriving there through no fault of her own. People who made promises to her didn’t deliver. She had to leave immediately.

She left her cat and her children’s fancy rats. Before her sister Sarah could pick them up, someone threw them outside. The rats were caged and were fine, but the cat was nowhere to be found.

I immediately e-mailed Coins 4 Critters, and they responded just as quickly. They searched diligently for weeks before finally locating her and catching her. They had her spayed and vaccinated and held her until my niece could get back there. They never once asked for anything in return.

My niece tried her luck in Wisconsin and finally admitted there is no place like home. She and her children are back here where they belong along with their cat, Meow Meow.

Many people may think saving an animal is a small thing but it’s not.

My niece and her children were devastated to think about their cat lost in a strange place and never seeing her again. Because of Coins 4 Critters and their volunteers, R.C. and Jackie Mabie, my niece and her family are reunited with their cat.

I hope your community knows about the good work they do and appreciates them. I have rescued animals and know how expensive, time consuming and sometimes heartbreaking it can be. I’m not aware of your county’s stance on animal services, but I have found that communities that are pet and animal friendly tend to be communities that attract better people.
