Fort Gibson running back Jake Gandara is among 20 male and female athletes from Oklahoma selected as a state finalist for Wendy’s High School Heisman award, which goes to a top scholar-athlete.
The fast-food restaurant chain will award the state honor on Nov. 5 and then select 12 as national finalists, of which one will be named for the top honor on Dec. 7. In a release by the company, it says criteria is based on “spirit of hard work and dedication through their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community/school leadership.”
Johnathon Ozturk of Keys is the only other area state finalist.
