Hoops coach still at Porter

Porter superintendent Mark Fenton said Monday that Porter coach Bill Nobles was “still the girls basketball coach at Porter High School.”

Fenton was responding to a report in Saturday’s edition of the Phoenix that Nobles had resigned. Fenton said through a coach on staff to the Phoenix on Saturday that he would have no comment until Monday.

“As far as I’m concerned, he is our girls basketball coach and will be so unless you hear something  from him.” Fenton said when reached by phone on Monday.

Attempts to reach Nobles for comment since Friday through text and phone have not been returned.

Nobles became Porter’s girls coach this past summer after having left Sequoyah, where he led the Lady Indians to four state finals appearances, winning three.

The Lady Pirates were eliminated by Crowder in districts on Friday.
