BA gets even with run-rule over MHS

BROKEN ARROW — The euphoria of a 3-2 win over these same Tigers on Monday sank back to earth for Muskogee here Tuesday as the Roughers dropped a 12-2 decision at Broken Arrow.

Seven of the Tigers’ 12 runs were unearned, meaning bad news for Roughers starter Ethan Barton, who worked into the fourth. He was touched for 10 hits. The Tigers broke a scoreless game with four runs off Barton in the third and then homered twice off him before he left in a seven-run fourth where the Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate.

“He did a good job working ahead of hitters but we did a lot of beating ourselves,” MHS coach Jeremy Griffin said. “Yesterday we saw what we’re capable of. Today we didn’t play our brand of ball, kicking it around, making some mental mistakes, and they took advantage of those.”

Muskogee had four hits, two by Barton. After Trey Gatzman singled in the fifth, Tyler Bowden hit a two-run home run to extend the game, trailing at that point 11-2.

The loss evened MHS at 1-1 in District 6A-3 and 2-2 overall, matching BA in both departments. The Roughers play Tulsa Noah at home on Thursday.
