FGHS sweeps way to victory

— LOCUST GROVE — Class 4A No. 2 Fort Gibson rolled to a 71-48 victory over Locust Grove on Tuesday behind Brooke Palmer’s game-high 20 points.

But it was the 3-point shooting, particularly from Allie Glover, which got the Lady Tigers (8-0) rolling. Glover had six  altogether. Teamwise, FGHS had six in the opening quarter and led 25-12 after eight minutes, making the Lady Pirates pay for jamming Palmer inside.

“We shot the ball well,” FGHS coach Jerry Walker said. “Like I’ve told you before, Glover is one of the best shooters, if not the best, I’ve had. But our overall outside game was good.”

FGHS was 11-of-17 for the game from beyond the arc. They along with their male counterparts are finished until after the holiday break, returning on Jan. 3 for their first home game of the year against Jay.

Also in scoring, Savanna Gray had nine points and Cheyenne Johnson eight.

Jordan Hill had 26 points and Jordan London had 10 for the Tigers (6-2, 3-0), who took charge with an 11-2 third-quarter run to lead 41-31.

“I thought our defense played extremely well to hold them to two points,” FGHS coach Gary Hendrix said. “They didn’t shoot the ball as well as they did to start but I think a lot of it had to do with what we were doing.”

Locust Grove led 23-17 after one quarter and the Tigers responded with a 13-6 rally to lead 30-29 at the half.
