SALLISAW — Three games, three victories so far this high school fastpitch softball season for the Hilldale Lady Hornets as they defeated the Sallisaw Black Diamonds 8-0 Tuesday at Sallisaw’s diamond.
Danielle Riddle (2-0) struck out six in the win. The contest was stopped in the top of the fifth inning on the run rule. Julena Shrum’s two-run double in the fifth ended the game.
Paige Boling added a double and two stolen bases, while Riddle drove in a run to help her own cause.
“We’re off to a good start, but we’re going into a big weekend and the girls are looking forward to that,” Hilldale coach Matt Ross said.
Ross’ Lady Hornets play at Muskogee at 5 p.m. Thursday and then compete in the Broken Arrow Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Hilldale faces Owasso at 10:30 a.m., McLoud at 11:30 a.m. and Yukon at 5 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Hornets play Stillwater at 9:30 a.m. and Adair at 11:30 a.m.
“We have a big weekend at Broken Arrow,” Ross said. “It’ll be good to see where we’re at. In the meantime, we’re still young and we haven’t played much this season.”
