Checotah-Eufaula: Tracing the rivalry

While it would difficult to pinpoint one particular game out of the 91 that’s been played, there have been several that have been interesting.

1916 – Eufaula 45, Checotah 16: A five page play by play account was included in the Eufaula yearbook.

1928 – Checotah 6, Eufaula 2: Eufaula protests when 15-minute quarters are played instead of 12.

1936 – Eufaula 36, Checotah 0: Game almost canceled due to an infantile paralysis scare that closed Checotah schools for two weeks. Checotah team was short several players.

1947 – Checotah 14, Eufaula 6: J. W. Emerson threw a touchdown pass and John Winkle ran for one as the Wildcats clinched their first playoff berth.

1956 – Checotah 66, Eufaula 6: The most points scored by one team in the series. Junior Hart ran and passed for three touchdowns and Neal Emerson ran for three.

1967 – Eufaula 43, Checotah 6: Eufaula completes its first undefeated season since 1923. It ended a streak of 38 games in which it was the final regular season game for both teams.

1975 – Eufaula 39, Checotah 28: J. C. Watts ran for five touchdowns and threw for another.

1989 – Checotah 40, Eufaula 21: Checotah dominates the decade of the 80’s with eight wins.

1990 – Eufaula 63, Checotah 34: Eufaula’s Demetrius Crowder rushes for 425 yards and five touchdowns.

1998 – Checotah 12, Eufaula 0: Checotah’s last win in the series.
