Sequoyah boys claim runner-up finish in 3A

— Sequoyah’s boys capped a successful season in track by finishing second in the Class 3A team standings with 44 points at the 3A-4A state meet, held at Ardmore on Saturday.

Lincoln Christian won the meet with 104 points.

Tyler Stroth finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.29 seconds. The Indians took second in the 400 relay at 45.33 and fourth in the 1,600 relay (3:31.73). Greydon Elrod was third in the shot put (47 feet, 11 inches). Zac Robinson, bound for Oregon State on a football scholarship, took third for Sequoyah in the 200 (22.45).

On the girls side, Sequoyah’s Kayla Davis won the 400 in 58.99 seconds. Bailey Ratliffe finished fifth in the long jump (15-5 1/4). The Lady Indians got sixth in the 1,600 (4:21.53)

Also in the 3A meet, Vian’s Jay Jones and Keys’ Preston Releford took third and sixth, respectively, in the 400 (51.22 and 52.03, respectively). Eric Casey of Vian was seventh in the 200 (23.10) and the Wolverines’ 1,600 relay took sixth in 3:33.01. Rob Boyd got sixth in the shot put (46-8). Keys’ Kendall Toyne was eighth in the boys 1,600 (4:46.55) and 32,00 (10:48.29).

Also, Keys was fourth in the boys 400 (43.04).

Among 4A events, Fort Gibson’s Lillian Bear was sixth in the 3,200 meter run, running a 12:28.27.

Stilwell’s Sydney Lawrence won the 1,600 (5:27.01) and 3,200 (12:21.52).

Fort Gibson’s Jake Gandara barely missed the 100 finals in 11.71, finishing ninth in qualifying. Hilldale’s Samantha Byrd was another close call missing the medal stand by one spot in the 800, running 2:32.32 for seventh.

Elgin was 4A boys champ, Douglass 4A girls champ and Plainview was tops among 3A girls.

Class 2A-A state at Carl Albert

Medaling locally was Gore’s Jacob Johnson, who cleared 6-2 to finish second in the high jump behind Quinton’s Tysin Davis, who made 6-4. Northeast won the 2A boys title and Hennessey won the 2A girls title. Class A champs were Velma-Alma (boys) and Deer Creek Lamont (girls).
