Phoenix staff report
On Monday, the area Class A and B schools were notified of the upcoming district playoff schedule.
On Thursday, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association released the district assignments for Class 2A-4A and 16 area schools found out where their boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will begin their postseasons, and a good many of them will hit the road including all area 4A schools.
In spite of having two top 10 teams, Fort Gibson begins the postseason at Jay, but since 4A is a double-elimination affair with two-team districts, both will move on to regionals which in this case will send both schools to Fort Gibson for the next week of play in regionals.
Hilldale will go to Inola in District 6 and in 7, Waogner goes to Muldrow. All four will then move to Wagoner for regionals, then the survivors will advance the following week to the Muskogee Civic Center for the area tournament. Also joining them is the survivors out of the Henryetta regional where district foes Checotah and Locust Grove will compete. Those two are at Locust Grove in the District 4 playoff.
In Class 3A, three schools open at home. Sequoyah will host the Area I District 7 championship and will battle Haskell. Keys hosts Salina in the Area III District 2 tournament, Eufaula and Stigler will battle each other in Eufaula for the District 4 title while Vian travels to Westville in District 8 action.
Haskell and Sequoyah will end up at the Okmulgee regional after a stop at Beggs. Eufaula will move through Sperry and then into Adair where Keys will play. Vian will play a second-round game at Verdigris and then the regional moves to Muskogee Civic Center. All survivors making the Area III tournament will gather at Fort Gibson.
In 3A-4A, districts 4 and 7 will play on Feb 15, and districts 2, 5 and 6 will play on Feb. 16 while
Class 2A Area III has Hulbert heading to Liberty in a three-team battle with Liberty and Mounds for the District 4 title and will wind up at Mounds for regionals if it advances. Okay will battle for the District 7 title in Kiefer along with Kiefer and Foyil while Warner goes to Will Rogers along with Summit Christian to see who wins the District 8 championship. Okay’s regional subsite is Foyil, Warner’s is Hominy and the next step would be the regional main site at Tulsa Rogers.
Oktaha will host the Class 2A, Area IV District 2 championship that also features Gore and Quinton. The survivors move on to the regional subsite at Panama, then Talihina for regionals. The Porter boys and girls head to Preston for District 5 play and will battle Crowder and Preston. Porter’s regional is at Crowder. The Area IV tournament will take the survivors at Wilburton.
In three-team districts in 2A, the district representatives rate and seed two teams on the percentage record of games won and lost. The worst record shall choose either seeded team automatically placing the bye, but the loser of that game is finished at that point.
The 2A dates and times will be finalized in the next week.
