Medical workers make reader thankful

DEAR EDITOR: If you don’t believe in miracles, then you should have been with me on Oct. 19. It started around 5 p.m. when my son Matt Gotcher came in the house and said he was having a heart attack.

I rushed him to EMS 3 in Fort Gibson, where Johnny Alberty and Brenda Nichols started working on him. They took him Code 3 to MRMC, where Dr. Campbell and his emergency staff took over.

God guided those wonderful people. They never gave up, when most people would have. Every few minutes, Brenda would give us an update on what was happening, which was so much appreciated, and each time, we thought he was gone.

It is my understanding they had to shock him 32 times, which is way more than most doctors would have done. Dr. Campbell talked with me and said they were taking him by Life Flight to St. Francis.

Once there, my son was treated in the emergency room by another great staff. After what seemed like forever, he was taken to the intensive care unit.

The following day, and only 19 hours later, he was taken off the respiratory machine and could breathe on his own.

There were some complications with blood clots, but on Oct. 28, he was released from the hospital.

Bet you couldn’t make a one of us who had been waiting at the hospital that night believe that he was out believe that God was not there helping and guiding each person who touched him, staring with the care he got from the very beginning.

I thank you and God bless each and every one of you. I may not know all your names, but you know who you are. Thank you for not giving up.

And a very special thank you and God bless you to Dr. Campbell.

Linda Skillented
