Fort Gibson High School girls will square off in the Student Council’s annual Powder Puff football game, benefiting the Community Food Bank, at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Admission for students is four cans of food. Parents and others can be admitted with a canned food item, said Karen Kimberling, math teacher and student council advisor.
The game pits freshman and junior girls against sophomore and senior girls, with boys taking on coaching and cheerleading duties, she said.
“We’d like to see at least 4,000 cans,” Kimberling said.
The game is one of three canned food drives FGHS school groups have been doing this week and last.
The FCCLA scheduled a food scavenger hunt last Monday.
Members were to be divided into groups and visit neighborhoods soliciting donations, said FCCLA advisor Janet Freeling. FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
The National Honor Society’s annual drive ended Tuesday.
All food donated goes to the Community Food Bank, located at First United Methodist Church. Rhonda Ford, church secretary, said the Food Bank hopes to have enough food for 30 to 35 Thanksgiving food baskets.
People also can bring canned food to the church, 302 Boulevard, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday.
