Students take honors in poster contest

Seven Fort Gibson students took honors in the Muskogee County Solid Waste Committee’s annual Trash-off poster contest.

Cash awards and certificates were handed out to first-, second- and third-place winners and honorable mention recipients at a ceremony Thursday night at Northeastern State University at Muskogee.

The Fort Gibson winners were:

• Third to fifth grade — Gavin Mock, second; EmmaLeigh Elrod, third; and Chris Dennis and Madalyn Cook, honorable mention.

• Sixth to eighth grade: Aaron Scott, second; Talon Ford, third; and Jacob Scott, honorable mention.

There were several hundred entries in this year’s poster contest, said Bobby Burgess, who led the awards presentations Thursday night at Northeastern State University Muskogee.

“We are really committed to this contest and to the young people in our county,” Burgess said. “This is one of the highlights of our year.”

The winning posters will be forwarded to the statewide Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality contest.
