We are excited to be able to announce that News Channel 6’s Lori Fullbright will be our grand marshal in this year’s Starlight Christmas Parade. The parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 3.
This year’s theme is “A Frosty Christmas in the Fort.” As in years past, line up will begin at 6 p.m. at the parking lot of the Church of Christ on South Lee Street.
The parade route will go north on Lee Street to the stop light, then east on Poplar Street to the Fajita Ritas parking lot.
Anyone wishing an early entry form can get one emailed to them by sending me a request to firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to a lot of participation and fun for this year's parade.
Santa Claus has already been contacted, and has promised to make time for our parade. Always a delight for the kids — and a few grown-ups as well.
For the month of September we have enjoyed our Weekly Chamber Luncheon at11:30 a.m. each Thursday at Abner's BBQ, 700 N. Lee St.
We appreciate Abner Miller and his staff for the great barbecue and super hospitality this past month. Recently, along with many regulars, like, Tonia Cooper, Denise Bain, Kathy Perkins, Sue Edwards, Cheryl Hill, Will Crawford, Justin Young Mark Young, Justin Calvert, Tim Smith, Valerie and Mike Ferguson, and myself, we enjoyed the company of Michael Lee, from Senator James Inhofe's office, and Arthur Hulbert.
Lots of conversation about politics this time of year. For the month of October, we will move our luncheon to the new Subway of Fort Gibson.
The "Smokin' the Fort-BBQ & Bluegrass Festival" is fast approaching, and this year's event is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet. Committee members are doing a great job of planning and making sure all the bases are covered.
Involved in the planning of this year's event are: Brad Clinkenbeard, Mike Williams, Justin Calvert, Alissa Gage, Sue Absher Patton, Cheryl Hill, Kathy Perkins, Steve Woods, Tonia Cooper, Tim Smith, Justin Young and myself.
A major sponsorship has been announced by Cherokee Casino of Fort Gibson, and we are happy to have the opportunity to work with them. They have some great thoughts and ideas for going forward, as our event grows and matures.
Other significant sponsors include The Fort Gibson State Bank, Clinkenbeard Century 21 Agency, Cook Construction, Armstrong Bank, and Yaffe Iron and Metal Co. We appreciate all those that support and help sponsor our event.
Vendor requests are coming hot and heavy, the music has all been lined up. SonBurst is working on this year's poster and T-shirt — a new design that will have everyone wanting one, KCBS and Taster's Choice entries are getting filled, and all the behind-the-scenes details are being covered.
Make sure you mark Oct. 26-27 on your calendar, and don't miss this year's super food, music, and merchandise event — all taking place in downtown Fort Gibson. For details, contact me here at the chamber at email@example.com or (918) 577-2069.
