I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Cherokee Nation and the Grand Opening of their new Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson.
They had a ribbon-cutting ceremony this past week with many tribal dignitaries, including Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker and members of both Fort Gibson Chamber of Commerce and Muskogee Chamber of Commerce in attendance.
It was nice to see that the external design of the casino lends itself to and compliments the historic heritage we stand for.
We were told that the casino will create approximately 80 new jobs for our area. For well over a decade, the chamber and Cherokee Nation has partnered in our efforts to bring meaningful events to our community.
Their financial help, along with their manpower and the participation resources they provide, has been an important part of our success.
They have stated that they are committed to working with our local government, our schools, the chamber and other non-profit organizations in providing the best for our community and its residents.
Again, we congratulate them on the opening of their new facility, and look forward to many years of continued partnership.
For those of you wanting to get one of our 2012 Fort Gibson Christmas Ornaments, they are going fast and the time is running out.
There are a few still available at Fort Gibson State Bank, SonBurst Graphics, Armstrong Bank and Granny's Porch.
They sell for $10, and this year's ornament represents the fifth year that we have been producing this special, hometown ornament.
They are great for personal keepsakes or for gifts to friends and relatives. I also still have a couple dozen of the “irregulars” available, in which the word “Centennial” was slightly misspelled by the engraver.
They are on sale for only $5 and the mistake is barely visible. Who knows, they might become a bigger collector's item than the original.
Give me a call if you are interested in one or more of these, (918) 478-4780 or (918) 577-2069.
Don't forget this month's Weekly Chamber Luncheon is being held at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday at Charlie's Chicken. Come join us for great food and even greater company and conversation.
