— OOLOGAH — Fort Gibson’s Jake Gandara finished second in the Class 4A boys 100-meter dash in 11.23 seconds, then helped the Tigers’ 400 relay to the same finish in the 2A-4A regional meet held here Saturday.

Gandara ran the final leg of the 400 following J.R. Singleton, Cameron Thomas and Zach Peterson and posted a combined time of 45.22.  Those four were also third in the 1,600 relay in 3:46.34, all earning automatic spots in the state meet next weekend in Ardmore.

Meanwhile, on the girls side, the Tigers’ Lillian Bear was third in the 3,200 (12:58.70) and the 3,200 relay involving Kirby Parnell, Taylor London, Aspen Burroughs and Hannah Cantrell took third in 10:48.17.

Warner’s girls recorded the highest team finish of local teams, finishing fourth in 2A with state-qualifying performances in middle- and long-distance events.

Brianna Lane, Baylie Short, Morgan Barton and Allie Davis finished second in the 1,600 meter relay with a time of 4 minutes, 34.03 seconds. Lane is a freshman, the other three are sophomores who competed with Caitlin Goodson and finished third in the 800 (1:59.69). The 3,200 relay of Davis, Lane, Short and Kelsey Girty was third at 11:45.95.

Girty and Davis will go as individuals as well. Girty was second in the 3,22 (13:56.85) and third in the 1,600 (6:21.51). Davis was third in the 800 (2:43.31).

On the boys’ side, Warner got second in the 110 hurdles with Nate French finishing in 17.67. Gore’s Jacob Johnson was the high jump champion in 2A at 6-0 and Ben Smith was third in the discus (120-6) and shot put (43-6 1/2). Garrett Lehnick got third in the long jump (18-11 3/4).

Hulbert’s Mykala Wynn, who helped the Lady Riders to a state softball berth last week, finished fourth in the 100 (13.36) and will have to wait for a possible at-large berth at state track as will others who placed anywhere from fourth to sixth.

Others facing that fate include: Short of Warner (1:07.22 in the 400), Hulbert’s Meagan Marrs, fourth in the discus (87-7) and shot put (32-10)  along with Girty (30-10) who was fifth; Cory Kerr of Hulbert, fifth in the 3,200 (11:55.40), Hulbert’s sixth-place 400 boys relay (Oscar Landaverde, Colby Brown, Chris Vance and Marcus Smith, 48.81), Smith in the long jump (fifth, 18-8), Travis Cook, sixth in the shot put (41-8) and fifth in the discus (114-11), Fort Gibson’s Cameron Thomas (23.73, fifth in the 200) and Porter’s 400 and  800 girls relays (Keelia Menefee, Dominique Thomas, Ry Carter and Jy Carter), sixth in both (57.63 and 2:00.47).
