Chamber Notes: Join us for Thursday lunches

By Gary Perkins

We have held our Weekly Chamber Luncheons for almost  five years now. They were started by a suggestion made by then Board President Mark Young as we discussed ways to bring the chamber and the general public together.

Over the past several years, we have enjoyed the company of many new friends, along with some weekly stalwarts and have had some great conversations about every possible topic you can imagine.

Lately, of course, politics has dominated our remarks, along with school activities, kids in general, shopping, trips and vacations, hunting successes (and failures), jobs, friends, community events and projects, babies and — most importantly — family.

If you haven't joined us lately, come and experience the fun. We meet at 11:30 a.m. every Thursday and rotate the meal at various restaurants in Fort Gibson. For the month of November, we are at Fajita Rita’s.

You can check the website at www.fortgibson.com, where an annual calendar by month is listed as to where we will be meeting.

You can also check out the weekly Fort Gibson Times for locations.

The past couple weeks have found the following individuals at our luncheon: Derald Glover, Tonia Cooper, Denise Bain, Kathy Perkins, Cheryl Hill, Sue Edwards, Lisa Clayton, Mark Young, Justin Young, Lauren Young and son Westin, Justin Calvert, Charlie Leveille, Tim Smith, Will Crawford, David Perry, Rhonda Lee and myself. Of course, we won't hold a luncheon on Thanksgiving Day.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, as we approach this traditional day of family gathering, great food and giving thanks for our many blessings, let's not forget our beloved United States of America.

On a personal note, I will be out of the office most of the next couple weeks as I will be hunting in Wisconsin with my two sons.

Consequently, there will be no Chamber Notes next week, so I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

May you and your families be blessed always.
