The library offers wonderful things besides books.  

Our databases offer all kinds of information, from car repair and hobbies to magazine articles and languages.

“Learning Express” is a database that provides a wide range of help that can be accessed from library computers or from remote locations such as homes, jobs, and schools in Muskogee County.

Homeschoolers and parents who would like to know whether their children are performing at grade level in different areas can go to the library’s Web page www.eok.lib.ok.us, click on the Research tab and scroll to “Learning Express” to find tests for elementary grades in reading and math; in middle school the tests expand to writing; and the high school tests include vocabulary and spelling, synonym and antonym and word analogy practice.

College preparation is frequently requested for practice tests including the ACT, Advanced Placement, CLEP, CUNY Skill Assessment Tests, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, THEA and TOEFL iBT.  When a person registers as a “Learning Express” user, which is easy and free, the database will time the practice test, grade it, and explain why answers were correct.  College students may be interested in the GMAT, GRE, LSAT and MCAT exams.

The computer skills section offers courses in Adobe Flash, Illustrator and Photoshop; Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, SharePoint Designer, Visio and Word courses; and Windows and Mac operating systems courses.

The popular GED section offers GED practice exams, preparation courses, skills improvement and Spanish-language GED preparation.

One of the most important offerings in these economic tough times is the Workplace Skills Improvement section that presents Creating Great Resumes and Cover Letters and Interviewing.  The resume builder helps identify strengths, suggests a resume format and provides assistance with a great action words list to help when you want to describe what you accomplished in previous jobs.

The Occupation Practice Tests section includes tests for air traffic controller, civil service, cosmetology, electrical, law enforcement, military (ASVAB), nursing, plumbing, real estate and teaching.

There is a section for U. S. Citizenship Exam Preparation and a Spanish language section that offers writing, mathematics and GED preparation in that language.
